This month, I am reading through the book of Romans. As I read chapter four this morning, something caught my eye. Our believing in God is the work of God. Some that we are saved because we believe, But Paul identifies our belief as the work of God and not our work. Ephesians 2:8-9 states that we have been saved by grace through faith and not by works. Those who claim that it is their belief that saves them are declaring their act of believing as what saves them, which is their work! Therefore they are boasting in what they did, rather than recognizing God’s work in their life that gave them the ability to believe in the first place. Paul stressed our believing as God’s work in Romans 4:1-3; “What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Here is a video that I believe nails election and thus our belief is God’s work, based on God’s will, for His own glory.
